Singapore Eat: Zhou Pin (粥品) Porridges @ Bukit Timah Food Centre

Zhou Pin (粥品), located in Bukit Timah Interim Hawker Centre, is a food stall serving mainly porridges and a couple of noodle dishes.

There are different ingredients, such as pork, pig organs, fish slices, chicken, frog, etc, to choose for the porridges — the most popular being century egg & pork porridge. The big ticket items are cooked dishes with either frog or pig liver. It may seem like there are two noodle dishes on the menu but they are similar except for the type of noodle: one with curly (koka) noodle and the other using yee-mee (伊面).

The Century Egg & Pork Porridge (皮蛋瘦肉粥) is quite a big bowl of porridge cooked with cuts of century egg, lean pork, half a stick of fried dough, and topped with a number of garnishes (fried shallots and spring onions). The viscosity and flavours of the porridge are just-nice and no need for extra condiments. Adding a raw egg adds some eggy sweetness to the dish. A nice option for a light meal.

The Koka Noodle (可口面) is prepared by cooking lean pork, minced meat and greens in a pot of soup, adding a raw egg and curly noodle to the finished soup in a bowl and topped with garnishes. The noodle is softened by the hot soup, without cooking, and is very springy. It has pleasant taste and nice too.

I have tried both the basic porridge and noodle dishes of Zhou Pin and will go for their frog porridge and other porridges next.
