Singapore Eat: XiangYu Pan-Fried Bun (香遇生煎包) @ Jurong West

Writer: RickRick

XiangYu Pan-Fried Bun (香遇生煎包) is located on level 2 of the 2020-renovated Jurong West Hawker Centre (JW50) in Jurong. The Chinese food stall serves pork or prawn pan-fried buns (生煎包), wantons (云吞或抄手), dumplings (水饺), xiao long bao (小笼包) and several noodle dishes, including spiced beef noodle (五香牛肉面), minced meat noodle (炸酱面), etc. XiangYu's signature pan-fried buns are highly-recommended by Jurong residents.

The Pan-Fried Pork Buns (鲜肉生煎包), in set of 3 pieces, are topped with spring onions and fried till crispy only at the bottom. Before eating, poke a hole in the bun and suck out the hot soup (slowly) to prevent it from squirting out — and waste the delicious soup — on biting.

The fresh meat, in dark sauce, and savoury soup has nice aroma and tasty and has nice crunchy texture from the crispy fried bottom. Pair it with crispy chilli or ginger in vinegar to further enhance its flavours as desired.

The Pan-Fried Prawn Buns (鲜虾生煎包), in set of 3 pieces also, are similarly fried only at the bottoms like the pork buns but are topped with fried sesame seeds. The buns are filled with fresh prawns, meat and other ingredients.

The prawn buns are also tasty and delicious with a different taste experience. Both the pork and prawn pan-fried buns are so nice that I ate them for lunch and dinner on the same day.

XiangYu Pan-Fried Bun (香遇生煎包): Pork Wanton in Chilli Oil

The Pork Wanton in Chilli Oil (红油抄手), in set of 8 pieces, have thin and soft wanton skins with chunky meat in a sauce, made with red chilli oil and vinegar, and garnished with fried garlic bits and spring onions. The wantons, with succulent pork meat, are tasty and delicious too. This dish is also available with prawn fillings.

XiangYu Pan-Fried Bun opened a new branch in the newly-opened Bukit Batok West Hawker Centre — much closer to my home. I will continue to try their dishes at the new stall.
