Tasty China (锦绣中华) is a new restaurant located on the ground floor of Beauty World Centre. It is only few months new in the shopping centre.
The restaurant's kitchen and service counter occupies a shop unit and the dining area is outside the shop on the concourse. There are several tables inside the shop too.
Tasty China partners with iPOT Mala Tri-Pot (麻辣三锅) — the latter's main outlet is in Paya Lebar Square — to serve mala hotpot. The restaurant also serves traditional breakfast set, steamed buns, dumplings, noodles, grilled skewers and also Chinese cooked and cold dishes. Note that orders for mala hotpot is to be paid separately from dishes from Tasty China.
The Chinese-style Braised Beef Ramen (红烧牛腩刀削面) uses handmade knife-sliced noodle in flavourful broth with beef brisket and greens. The ultra-tender beef brisket is not pure meat but consists partially of soft tendons too. The broth has a wonderful aroma from the spices used and is mildly spicy (chilli can be added to taste separately). It is tasty dish not to miss.
The Ice Jelly (冰粉) is a Chinese dessert from Southwest China, not the typical Taiwanese dessert iced aiyu jelly (爱玉冰). The refreshing transparent jelly has chewier texture and is served on ice with dried raisins and black sesame seeds. The dried raisins are the main sauce of sweetness for the dessert.
Tasty China's coffee-eggs-toasts set is nice for breakfast. The kaya-butter toasts are lightly toasted and is crispy on the outside and soft inside. The spread of kaya and butter are just enough to cover the thinly-sliced toasts without too much of them, so it is overly sweet.
The Minced Pork Buns Steamed in Bamboo Steamer (鲜肉发面竹笼包), served in set of 4, are not very big and have fresh and juicy fillings. Similarly, the Premium Sauce Braised Pork Buns (酱肉发面竹笼包), also in set of 4, offers a different flavour. The combination of toasts and buns makes a full breakfast or brunch — oh, their buns run out fast, especially on weekends.
iPOT Mala Tri-Pot (麻辣三锅) offers 3 types of base for their hotpots:
Mala Hot Pot (麻辣香锅),
Mala Soup Pot (麻辣汤锅) with 4 variants,
Signature Mala Cold Hot (招牌冷锅).
The spiciness level and "tongue-numbing" level can be selected as desired.
The Mala Hot Pot (麻辣香锅), with 50% spiciness and 50% tongue-numbing, has very nice mala flavours without being too spicy that can affect the taste of the selected ingredients. Delicious.
iPOT's soup pot and cold pot seems interesting and Tasty China has more cooked dishes and grilled skewers to go for too.
