Singapore Eat: Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff (东陵酥皮咖喱角) @ Chinatown

There are two "Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff" stalls on the second level of Hong Lim Market & Food Centre, Chinatown. Both are owned separately by the two sons of the original creator of the curry puffs. This post is on the original stall named "Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff".


Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff (东陵酥皮咖喱角) serves handmade fat curry puffs. There are five flavours: chicken curry, sardine curry, otah, yam and the newly-created Black Pepper Chicken Mushroom Curry flavour.

All the curry puffs are marked differently to identify them. The signature Chicken Curry Puffs are unmarked and Sardine Curry Puffs are marked by a single red small dot. Both are pioneer creations.

Otah Puffs are marked by large red dots and Yam Puffs has a single green dot. I missed the black pepper chicken puff as it was sold out — will try it another time.


Tanglin Crispy Curry Puff: Otah Puffs & Yam Puffs

All the crispy puffs have flaky layered crusts. The Chicken Curry Puff (top-left) with potato, chicken and egg has a mild-spicy filling with nice flavours. The Sardine Curry Puff (top-right) with potato and sardine is mildly sweet. The Otah Puff (bottom-left) has sweet-spicy otak-otak as it's filling, spicier than Chicken Curry Puff and is delicious too. The Yam Puff (bottom-right) is rather unique — similar to kaya puff but with yam paste in curry puff — and is mild-sweet.
