Fong Sheng Hao (丰盛号) started in Taipei City a little more than 10 years ago. Over the years, the Taiwanese brand has expanded in Taiwan and also set foot in Singapore. In May 2024, the Taiwanese-breakfast-chain opened its 7th outlet in a corner of Bukit Panjang Plaza.
Fong Sheng Hao @ Bukit Panjang Plaza is not very big but pretty cosy. It has 10 most popular Taiwanese breakfast to offer to Singapore residents. On weekdays from Monday to Friday, excluding public holiday, value breakfast sets are available from 7:30am to 11am.
Fong Sheng Hao serves various flavours of charcoal-grilled thick toasts / sandwiches, omelette, rice and noodle dishes — all Taiwanese-style. Popular Taiwanese sides such as scallion pancake (葱油饼), popcorn chicken (盐酥鸡), sweet potato fries (炸番薯条), etc, are also available as add-on. For beverages, they serve Taiwanese tea and flavoured milk tea. However, for coffee, it serves Singapore local kopi and teh too.
Fong Sheng Hao serves Singapore Nanyang coffee instead of Taiwanese-style coffee that tastes ultra-light — since Taiwanese prefers tea and milk beverages for breakfast. The Nanyang traditional kopi-O is aromatic and full-bodied.
The Taiwan Special Pork Patty (手打肉排) sandwich, with lettuce, has a handmade pork patty with cheese and egg between charcoal-grilled thick toasts. The savoury patty has a pleasant taste, not too sweet nor salty and with cheesy flavour from the cheese. The sandwich is really nice.
The Pork Chop Rice (丰味猪扒饭), one of the highly-recommended rice dishes, has a large piece of fried pork chop with well-fried sunny-side up and pickled cucumber on rice. The rice, with short and fat grains, is dribbled with some braised pork sauce to give it some flavour. The fried pork chop, sprinkled with some pepper and salt, is tasty but not overly strong-tasting. It is a wonderful dish to go for other than toasts.
The "sugary delight" that accompanies any set meal is a small packet of crispy roti kok, or rusk crackers. The small pieces of twice-baked bread are sprinked with sugar and carry a buttery aroma. It is the best companion to a cup of unsweetened kopi.
If you miss the wonderful taste of Taiwanese breakfast, head over to Fong Sheng Hao and satisfy that craving without having to fly to Taiwan.
