Dim Sum Express (筷餐点心), located in Kimly Coffeeshop in Bukit Batok East, is one of several outlets across Singapore. It serves no-frills dim sum at cheap prices round the clock.
All items of Dim Sum Express are priced at $1.50 each and is probably the cheapest in Singapore. There is a Budget Meal option at $2.90 for a chicken glutinous rice and siew mai (3 pcs) — although not much of a savings, it is still a cheaper and filling meal. Besides dim sum items, the stall serves steamed buns too.
A good reason to have dim sum is the ability to mix-and-match smaller items to make up a meal depending on appetite. My first meal comprises of chicken feet, siew mai (3 pcs) and steamed yam cake — and a takeaway of vegetable buns (2 pcs). The yam cake with chilli paste is the staple. The chicken feet dish is nice and not overly sweet nor salty and the siew mai are fresh.
I have another meal with century egg pork porridge, pork ribs and prawn dumplings (3 pcs). The porridge with century egg and lean pork with garnishes is quite a large bowl, lightly flavoured and nice-tasting. The prawn dumplings are fresh as well with crunchy prawns. The pork ribs dish is very tender and delicious.
The food at Dim Sum Express have nice tastes with no frills and do not use too much salt, sugar, oil nor strong-taste seasonings. Dining at the stall is cheaper and healthier too.
