Singapore Eat: 777 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee (777炒福建虾面) @ Bukit Batok West

Writer: RickRick

777 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee (777炒福建虾面) is a noodle stall in Broadway Coffee Shop, back to back to Food Hub, in Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre. As its name implies, the stall serves mainly fried Hokkien prawn mee.

On the menu, or signboard, there are two kinds of Hokkien Prawn Mee, one with roasted pork and the other without. The stall added fried kway teow to their menu in early 2024.

The Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee (炒福建虾面) is served with thick rice vermicelli (larger proportion) and yellow noodle stir-fried with egg in savoury gravy and is topped with fresh prawns, slices of faux abalone (made with squids) and shreds of pork belly meat. The not-too-wet noodle dish is accompanied by a lime and spicy chilli for additional citrusy-spicy flavours. It is a nice-tasting dish that I have eaten countless times.

The Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee + Roasted Pork (炒福建虾面+烧肉) is the same Hokkien mee added with cuts of roasted pork. The light-roasted roasted pork has retained the tenderness and juiciness of the meat and is not overly salty — heavily-roasted roasted pork tends to be drier and saltier.

The Fried Kway Teow with thick flat noodle and yellow noodle is stir-fried with eggs, slices of fishcake, beansprouts and cockles. The sweet-savoury fried noodle is tasty and cockles are nicely-cooked, not too raw nor overcooked. It is nice too and has a familiar taste though — I seemed to have tasted a similar dish before but unable to put my finger on where I tried that.

The fried Hokkien prawn mee and fried kway teow are delicious which is why I dined very often at 777 Fried Hokkien Prawn Mee stall.
