68 Cafe is a new coffee place — just a week old at the time of writing this post — in Bukit Batok West Shopping Centre, right opposite Food Hub (大食汇). Despite being new, the cafe is already a popular hangout for early folks to have traditional kopi and breakfast.

The little cafe serves various breakfast sets combining traditional kopi or teh, soft-boiled eggs and toasts / steamed bread with different types of spread, peanut porridge (their special recommendation), nasi lemak and otak-otak. Aside from butter-kaya / peanut as spreads for the toasts, there are new launches with tuna, sardines, egg mayo and cinnamon banana too.

Their kopi-O kosong has nice aroma and not bitter. The traditional butter-kaya toasts use brown breads that are grilled till crispy yet still retain some softness. The amount of butter and kaya are just nice without making it a sinfully-tasty breakfast. The savoury peanut porridge is a simple dish with fat peanuts and cuts of fried dough and is nicely flavoured. The portion is quite big too.

There are two versions of nasi lemak (supplied by Chong Pang Nasi Lemak), one with fried fish and the other with egg crepe. Fried peanuts with ikan bilis and sambal chilli are common ingredients of the nasi lemak. Each packet is quite big and best to be consumed before 2pm. The grilled otak-otak is the broad type and has a nice aroma.

Wake up early and go for traditional breakfast at 68 Cafe. Oh, their peanut porridge does run out fast even on weekdays.
