Yee Fung Laksa (怡丰叻沙) is one of many coffee shops located along Gaya Street in Kota Kinabalu, the capital city of Sabah. The shop is very popular for its signature laksa and various noodle dishes and usually crowded in the morning till lunch— expect long queues during the Sunday market.
Yee Fung is well-known for its Kuching laksa (古晋) — commonly called “Sarawak laksa”in other parts of Malaysia but is usually referred to as "Kuching laksa" in the states of Sarawak and Sabah. Yee Fung has a specialty laksa dish named "Yee Fung Laksa King" that comes with big prawns — I believe the base is Kuching laksa. There are other noodle dishes that seem delicious on the menu.
I have only one chance to try at Yee Fung and opted for their signature Kuching laksa naturally, which is named as "Yee Fung Laksa". The noodle dish has a well-balanced sour-spicy light broth with fresh prawns, shredded rolled omelette, strips of tofu puff, beansprouts, etc, and a whole lime for more refreshing acidity. It is tasty and not too spicy.
I will want to try Yee Fung's ngau chap (mixed beef) noodle next time I'm back in Kota Kinabalu.
