Soon Chuan Coffee Shop (顺泉茶室), located in an area known as Sinsuran Kompleks that comprises several blocks of building, has several stalls selling a list of local dishes. There are noodle dishes and rice dishes.
One of the stalls in Soon Chuan sells Kuching laksa (古晋叻沙), a noodle dish from Kuching, Sarawak. In Sabah and Sarawak, the popular local-style laksa is often called "Kuching laksa" whereas it is commonly referred to as "Sarawak laksa" in most other places.
The classic Kuching laksa is served with lots of ingredients that include prawns, shredded chicken, sliced tofu puffs and shredded eggs on thick rice vermicelli. And with a lime. The savoury-sweet, mildly spicy broth has a refreshing limey flavour after adding in the lime juice. The noodle dish is nice tasting and great.
Another stall sells a wider range of both noodle and rice dishes that include prawn noodle, Tuaran mee (a local dish of Sabah), dumpling noodle, mixed pork noodle, economic rice, roasted delights, chicken rice, etc.
Apart from stir-fried Tuaran mee with roasted pork and barbecue pork, the Tuaran mee here can be dry-tossed with a dark sauce. Other than roasted pork and barbecue pork, fried chicken is also added with a bowl of wanton soup. It is a different experience to try another style of the Tuaran mee.
The noodle dishes I tried so far at Soon Chuan Coffee Shop are nice and tasteful. I will want to try the other dishes too.
