Seng Hing Coffee Shop (成兴茶餐室) is located in the vicinity of Kota Kinabalu Handicraft Market and one of the eating places in Sabah that serves popular noodle dishes and a long list of local dishes.
Seng Hing's highly-popular dishes include Kuching laksa (a.k.a. Sarawak laksa), Tuaran mee, Chinese rice wine mee soup, Thai chicken feet and tom yum prawn / fish mee.
Tuaran mee (斗亚兰面) is a stir-fried egg noodle dish that originates from Tuaran District to the north of Kota Kinabalu. This dish is a must-try when visiting Sabah. The delicious noodle is added with egg, barbecue pork slices and roasted pork.
At Seng Hing, lihing Tuaran mee (黄酒炒斗亚兰面) is another variant of the local delicacy that is stir-fried with lihing, a locally-made glutinous rice wine by fermentation — Seng Hing uses their own house-made rice wine. The sweet and fragrant rice wine further enhances the flavour of the noodle dish.
The Chinese rice wine prawn mee soup (黄酒虾面) is another dish to savour the aroma and sweet taste of the rice wine in the prawn noodle. Oh, this noodle dish is delicious too with fresh and crunchy big prawns.
Seng Hing's lady boss is a friendly Sarawakan from Kuching. On learning that I was looking for lihing to try its flavours, she offered me a small glass of the rice wine to try its original flavour — Seng Hing actually brewed their own rice wine. The undiluted and fragrant rice wine is sweeter and stronger than in the prawn noodle. I really love rice wine — but not beer and alcohol though.
There are still many dishes at Seng Hing Coffee Shop that I have yet to try, I will definitely be back for more.
