October Coffee has three cafes in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah. Two cafes are in the city centre — one near Gaya Street and the other in The Peak Vista. The third outlet is a roaster-cum-cafe, called October Coffee Roasters, in Taman Bunga Raja.
October Coffee House (Gaya), located in Lorong Dewan in Australia Place, is a short 5 minute's walk from Gaya Street, a popular food street of Kota Kinabalu.
The Gaya outlet has a cosy and rustic feel with mostly wooden structures and wood-printed wallpapers. It is rather spacious with a raised platform, on one side of the cafe, adding an extra level with more tables and seats.
October Coffee House serves a long list of beverages, including a list of special coffees and pour-over coffee from its own roasted beans. Its food menu is hand-illustrated and consists mainly of light bites. There are toasts with different toppings, scones (2 pieces per order), brownies, pies, sandwiches, etc.
The cafe is a nice place to relax and try their special coffees. Unique to October Coffee is an ice shaken espresso coffee called “sakeso”. Using a cocktail technique to "shake" cold coffee until it becomes frothy, the resulting iced coffee is served in a wine glass with a layer of creamy foam on top.
A cappuccino from a single-origin coffee bean of the day has a very nice aroma.
The October Sandwich is a beef sandwich, can be either original or spicy, and served with cheese and a large amount of fresh salad. It is nice and tasty. Since it is called "October" sandwich, I believe this is their signature dish.
The Irish scones (2 pieces per order) have crispy outer crust with raisins but soft on the inside and are usually served warm. Accompanying the scones are butter, white cream and jam to be slathered on them before eating. Break out a part of the scone, slather some butter, cream or jam on it and eat. Nice!
October Coffee House (Gaya) is a great cafe to hang out and relax when exploring the city centre of Kota Kinabalu.
