Nook Cafe, located along Lorong Dewan in Australia Place, Kota Kinabalu, is a popular cafe about 5 minute's walk from Gaya Street, the food street of Kota Kinabalu. The cafe celebrated its 8th years of coffee-brewing on 2nd January 2024.
The cosy cafe has a very relaxing vibe, especially on weekdays when it is quieter.
Nook Cafe serves all-day breakfast, sourdough sandwiches and light meals with self-made sourdough as its main draw. Sandwiches are served with choice of sourdough from three options: light wholemeal country loaf, parmesan focaccia and soft white sourdough.
Nook Cafe's coffee is strong and aromatic. There are special coffee such as "dirty chai" too. Another good thing is that oat milk and soy milk are available as non-dairy options.
Sparkling lemonade is one of Nook Cafe's thirst quenchers. The lavender sparkling lemonade is a minty-lemony fizzy drink with fruit bits and wonderful flavours. It is a great drink to have on hot days and a good non-caffeine alternative. Other than lavender, there is rose flavour too.
The Crispy Chicken Burger, made up of a crispy fried chicken thigh, cheddar cheese, sunny-side-up egg and crispy slaw in a house-made brioche charcoal buns, is served with lots of garlic-parsley fries.
Similarly, the Smoked Salmon Sandwich, consisting of slices of smoked salmon, egg salad, cucumber, etc, and selection of sourdough, is served with side of french fries.
For a light meal, the Garden Harvest Salad is a great option even after a heavy meal. It comprises fresh salad greens, cherry tomatoes, red onions, raisins and almonds tossed in balsamic vinaigrette dressing. It is really light and refreshing.
Nook Cafe can get really packed on weekends. The best time to visit the cafe will be on weekdays or during off-peak hours — but I don't think there is an off-peak time for coffee.
