Pontian Cafe: Red People Cafe (红人馆) @ Pontian Kechil

Red People Cafe (红人馆) is a family-run cafe that started in 2020. Located along Jalan Teo Kang Sui in Kampung Atap, the cafe is just a stone's throw from the popular Heng Heng Wanton Noodle. The term "Specialty Coffee (精品咖啡)" is printed on the signboard.

The cafe is rather spacious, cosy and the colour theme is red, of course. The owner of the cafe is William and he brews the specialty coffee beans using his unique brewing method — which is an eye-opener for me. William is open to share anything regarding hand-brew coffee.

Red People Cafe's specialty is hand-brewed specialty coffee — ice drip, syphon or filter. There are espresso-based western coffees too and a "Red People Special" black coffee. Tea and other beverages are available too for non-coffee drinkers. For desserts, they have affogato, waffle or chocolate brownie with ice-cream and slice cakes, such as cheesecake, mousse and tiramisu.

Since the cafe specialises in specialty coffee, it is surely a must to try the flavours of their selected coffee beans via hand-brewing. It is an opportunity for interactions and to understand more about the coffee beans they use, the roasting skills, the brewing methods use and comparing notes on the taste characteristics — good for beginners like me to observe and learn.

Red People Cafe (红人馆): Filter coffee

Their specially-blended black coffee, called “Red People Special”, is an iced coffee. The coffee is added with some syrup before being frothed — looks like a glass of Guinness Stout but not bitter. The cold coffee has mild sweet flavours and a nice coffee to try.

Tiramisu is one of the desserts on the menu. It is non-alcoholic so expect it to be semi-frozen or wait longer before nipping at it. After defrosting, the tiramisu is soft, creamy and mild sweet. Tiramisu is always a nice dessert to go with coffee.

Red People Cafe is usually opened in the afternoon until around 5pm. After which, the family will manage another section of the cafe, just next door, to serve local food with traditional coffee and other beverages.
