Restoran Xiao Chong (阿锺肉骨茶) serves traditional-style bak kut teh (pork ribs soup) in Taman Sri Tanjung, near the western edge of Pekan Muar. Away from the town centre, the restaurant is known mainly to locals.

Aside from pork ribs soup, the restaurant also serves vinegar pig trotter (猪脚醋) and pig's stomach soup (猪肚汤) as its signature dishes. There are other soups with different porky ingredients and side dishes. When ordering pork ribs soup, additional porky ingredients can also be added — except pig's stomach which is served best in its own soup.

A complete bak kut teh meal will have pork ribs soup, with additional ingredients as desired, a serving of fried dough and a bowl of plain or yam rice.

The pork ribs soup, optionally added with meatballs and pig intestines, has a nice mellow herbal-savoury taste and not oily. The pork ribs and meatballs are tender and the intestines are well-cooked with slight chewiness. This is really nice, especially for breakfast.

Restoran Xiao Chong's pig's stomach soup has a nice aroma, I hope to try that on next visit to Muar.
