Tucked in a quiet lane (Jalan Tukang Besi) off the bustling Jonker Street of Melaka Old Town, Tú Ann Việt Nam Cafe setups shop in a property of a certain Melaka clan association. Started in 2022, the little family-run cafe serves Vietnamese coffee and light snacks.
Tú Ann's menu is pasted on the tables. For beverages, there are traditional Vietnamese phin coffee, Vietnamese coffee iced and "dew six chia seeds coffee", which is glass jelly with chia seeds in iced coffee (仙草奇亚籽咖啡). It seems like most of the cooked food are off the table after less than 2 years. However, Vietnam rice paper salad (越南米纸沙拉), mango salad (芒果沙拉) and Saigon roll (越南法国面包), or commonly known as banh mi, are still available.
The Vietnamese iced coffee has a very nice aroma, rich in taste and does not taste diluted as the ice melt — the reason why I prefer hot coffee over iced coffee, but there are exceptions when the weather is super hot.
The Saigon roll (banh mi) is served in a toasted black-charcoal baguette with ham, eggs and crunchy salad.
It has a mellow spicy-sweet sauce that makes the crispy banh mi tasty yet not too sweet or spicy. It is not too heavy as a meal and is delicious. I really loved it!
The "dew six chia seeds coffee" and rice paper salad seems interesting too. I will aim for them on next trip to Malacca.
