Pak Putra Restaurant is located in the outskirt of Melaka Old Town and is just a stone's throw away. It opens at 5:30pm and offers another option for dinner or supper when most eating places in the old town are closed for the day — except on weekends when the Jonker Walk Night Market takes place.
Pak Putra's specialties are their wide varieties of naan, or baked leavened bread, and tandoori chicken — said to be from Pakistani cuisine. Their signature tandoori chicken is a must-try. Other dishes, including vegetarian delicacies, are also available.
Ordering their tandoori chicken with any style of naan is usual fares for most visitors to the restaurant. The recommended beverage will be one of the fruity lassi series — a Punjabi traditional yogurt-based drinks. One of my meals at Pak Putra consists of the signature tandoori chicken, garlic naan and mango lassi.
The yogurt-marinated tandoori chicken is roasted in a cylindrical oven known as "tandoor" to perfection.
The reddish roasted chicken is not dry and still retains its tenderness and juiciness. Squeeze a little lime juice on the chicken and it adds on a limey aroma. Their special green sauce is mildly spicy with a mild-minty taste.
I had been to Pak Putra several times and should have tried other dishes, but I missed the so-tender tandoori chicken so much that I ordered it with different types of naan every time I went back to the restaurant.
The chicken tikka achari, another yogurt-marinate dish, is an Indian kebab dish to try with a special creamy sauce. A totally different experience.
Ever since I tried Pak Putra's tandoori chicken, I have not tasted a better tandoori chicken elsewhere.
