Malacca Cafe: The Daily Fix Cafe @ Melaka Old Town

The Daily Fix Cafe, founded in 2014, is one popular cafe that should not be missed when visiting Melaka Old Town. It is housed in a shop with an old shopfront along Jonker Walk. The cafe is also a coffee roaster.

To look for The Daily Fix, look for its signboard along the walkway. Stepping into the shop, a "Coffee & Bakeshop" occupies the left side with a bar counter and a "Curated Gift Shop" on the right with shelves of souvenirs and handicrafts. They are both part of The Daily Fix Cafe. A menu behind the bar counter has lists of coffee, non-coffee, freshly-baked confectionery, etc, for takeaways. Roasted coffee beans are available for sales too.

Further into the shop is the cafe. The rusticity of the cafe is more obvious here with vintage decorations. Some of the wooden tables are actually old sewing machines.

The cafe's flavoured coffees with freshly roasted coffee beans is a must-try, especially their signature salted gula Melaka coffee. Pancakes, with different toppings, and homemade cakes, like brownies, etc, are their signatures and also popular choices among customers. The Durian Pancakes come with puffy pancakes topped with a large scoop of durian ice-cream and accompanied by gula Melaka sauce. It is a hot-seller.

For meals, there are western main dishes, sandwiches, pastas, burgers, salads and light snacks. The Oven-baked Duck Breast with mashed potato, greens and balsamic-passion fruit sauce is a flavourful dish. The well-grilled and tender smoked duck breast is better than most beef steaks — one of my favourites.

The Fish & Chip uses crunchy sashimi fish with crispy batter, accompanied by a piece of lime and homemade tartar sauce, with fries and salads as sides. The tartar sauce is nice and goes well with the fried fish fillet.

The Eggs Benedict is served with poached eggs, chicken bacon and tomatoes on a lightly grilled ciabata bread and topped with hollandaise sauce and with salad at its side. It is a delightful dish, especially for brunch.
