Kneading Peace is a small bakery-cafe tucked among the old houses along Jalan Hang Lekiu, close to Jonker Street. The outlet is also a refugee-supporting training cafe. The staff explained that they take in and train refugees, while selling European panini, patisseries and gelato.
The cafe itself is a centre to feature some arts and crafts too.
Different types of sofa and chairs in the cafe provides different seating arrangements. The lamps hanging from the ceiling are of various styles too. Despite the peculiar aesthetic, they are rather captivating and have a homely ambience.
The food housed in the glass shelves at the counter looks tasty. There are ingredients in glass jars for creating customised sandwiches with panini bread or focaccia.
Their artisanal focaccia looks arty and delicious — and Instagram-worthy. The floral design is created using vegan ingredients such as onions, olives, cherry tomatoes and Italian herbs. The sandwiches are great for late lunch or dinner since the cafe opens at 2pm.
There are various hand-crafted pastries too. A selection of any 3 pieces will cost RM12 — each piece is RM5.
A fruity combination of lemon cake, strawberry custard tart and tarte tatin (French-style apple tart) to go with a cup of latte for afternoon coffee-time.
I will be back to Kneading Peace again to try their panini / focaccia sandwiches and also to support their cause.
