Kuching Eat: Oriental Park (国泰东方古早味) Sarawak Kolo Mee @ Kuching Old Street

Oriental Park Coffee Shop is located in a hidden alley, sandwiched between Lorong Market and Lorong Gertak, near India Street, Kuching. The coffee shop has just two stalls. One stall sells coffee and other beverages, and the other stall is Oriental Park Traditional Taste (国泰东方古早味), which sells only Sarawak kolo mee, and very popular among locals and Malaysian tourists to Kuching.

Expect the coffee shop to be crowded, with a queue, and the kolo mee to be sold out fast on weekends and public holidays — it sold out at 10am on my visit. Try going on a weekday or early in the morning, if possible.

Oriental Park Kolo Mee: crowded and a long queue

The Sarawak kolo mee is available in either small or big size (RM6 / RM8 respectively as of June 2024).

The dry-style kolo mee with curly egg noodle, slices of char siew (barbecue pork) and minced meat, fried shallots, is well-tossed with just-enough white sauce (lard oil and shallot oil). Be surprised on first bite of the noodle, it is springy and with a very nice texture. The self-roasted lean char siew is tender and juicy. It is no wonder that Oriental Park's kolo mee is so popular.

There are red-sauce (sweet) and black-sauce versions for the kolo mee too. I will definitely go back again to try them when I revisit Kuching.
