Moon & Sun Coffee is a "coffee-and-pastry" cafe located along Jalan Wayang in Kuching Old Street, just beside Borneo Delight Cafe (a restaurant serving local Sarawak dishes). The new cafe was officially opened on 7th June 2024 — I was at the cafe during its soft-launch.
The cafe serves mainly coffee, including hand-brew coffee, and a range of pastries. Ordering coffee with pastries may have discounts — when applicable.
I had a hot dirty chai latte with an "Indulgence Batik" cake. The dirty chai latte is espresso coffee blended with masala chai tea and added with milk. It is a smooth and pleasant coffee with a distinctive masala chai flavour.
The "Indulgence Batik" cake is a type of no-bake cake with a top layer of chocolate fudge, a middle layer of cream cheese and a base layer of biscuits gelled by Milo chocolate powder. The base layer has a batik-like pattern after cutting and hence the name "kek batik". It is undoubtedly a sweet cake.
Although kek batik is a Malaysian specialty since the British Malaya period, it is more popular in Sarawak than any other states of Malaysia. And Moon & Sun Coffee is a great place to try it with nice coffee while taking a break.
