Street arts are very common in Malaysia, especially along rows of old shophouses in small towns. These colourful artworks often bring liveliness to old towns and create sightseeing spots for visitors.
In Kluang town, street arts can be seen in several places, often along back alleys / lanes between two rows of shophouses. The most popular art lane in Kluang is along Jalan Laman Pesona, not far from Kluang Train Station, and is officially named "Laman Kreatif Kluang" — or "Kluang Street Arts" to most visitors.
Next to one exit of Laman Kreatif is a newly-painted huge mural featuring "Keluang Man", a Malaysian comedy superhero who dressed like Batman — "keluang" is Malay for "bat", which is why Kluang is also known as "Bat Town".
Opposite the "Keluang Man" mural is a newly-painted mural of a blue-eared kingfisher.
Nearby, another tall mural features ladies of different ethnicity wrapping ketupat (Malay rice dumplings) together.
There are many other murals along the lane — I will not describe them one by one. Some artworks welcome visitors to Kluang and introduce landmarks and local products of Kluang. There are also artworks on local cultures, cartoons, etc. Bat is the most painted animal along the lane.
The artworks are constantly being replaced by new ones over time. Some of the newer artworks — identifiable by their new coats of paint — in recent months are shown below.
The art lane is not all about murals, there are cafes lining the alley offering a range of options including coffee / tea, special beverages, desserts, light bites, etc. Some of the cafes have alfresco seatings along the lane too.
These cafes are located along the art lane:
Amora Cafe
Daddy Cendol
MG 83 Cafe
Kluang Life Cafe
There are coffee shops next to the art lane too. So, rest and relax at the cafes or coffee shops while checking out the street arts.
