Kluang Eat: Kluang Rail Coffee @ Jalan Duku

In the Malaysia Book of Records, one record is of an oldest railway kopitiam in Malaysia, since 1938, and that kopitiam is named Kluang Rail Coffee in Kluang District of Johor. The original Kluang Rail Coffee is still located in Kluang Railway Station but it has expanded its business over the years to having several modern branches in Kluang. The outlet along Jalan Duku is the nearest to the original outlet.

Not only is the branch outlet at Jalan Duku more modern, larger and spacious than the original outlet, its menu has more items and varieties too. Another addition to the restaurant is the use of food-serving robots — they are great helpers during peak hours.

If undecided on what to order from the long list of items on the menu, flip to the "Top 10 Dishes" page and pick one of the Malaysian local delights, such as nasi lemak, mee siam, curry mee, traditional toasts, char kway teow, nasi goreng, laksa, etc.

The nasi lemak with ayam goreng (fried chicken) is a simple local dish with fragrant coconut-milk-flavoured rice and nice sambal chilli.

The Chicken Low Xu Fen (炒鸡肉老鼠粉) uses short and fat rice vermicelli, called lao shu fen, that is fried with chicken meat, eggs and a dark sauce that contains spicy sambal chilli. It is a tasty and delightful dish.

With two Kluang Rail Coffee outlets within few hundreds of metres of one another, one original and one modern, they offer an opportunity to choose the preferred environment and/or vibe for dining — except during peak hours.
