Nam Yick Food Trading (南益饼家) is one of the oldest traditional bakeries in Kluang, since 1945. Located in Taman Sri Kluang, a fair distance from Kluang town centre, the bakery is well-known and attracted customers from Malaysia and Singapore.
During the annual Mid-Autumn Festival, Nam Yick will be fully geared up to sell its popular mooncakes. There are traditional mooncakes, snowskin mooncakes, Shanghai mooncakes and also various Mid-Autumn biscuits.
Nam Yick's traditional Shanghai mooncakes are available in three flavours: black bean (豆沙), lotus (纯莲蓉) and pandan lotus (翡翠). The non-sweet lotus fillings are encased in pillow-shaped shortcrust pastry of different appearances. Shanghai mooncakes with salted egg yolks are also available. Each Shanghai mooncake is individually packed in plastic wrapper.
The nice thing about Nam Yick's Shanghai Tricolor mooncakes (上海三色月饼) is that they are all of very low sweetness level, has distinct traditional tastes (古早味) and buttery aroma of the shortcrust pastry.
