Located a short distance from KSL City Mall and right next to Yit Foh Wanton Noodle, Kedai Makanan Yong He (永和粿条) is one of my favourite spots for delicious kway teow soup, especially for breakfast while waiting for KSL City Mall to open at 10am.
Yong He's kway teow dishes are prepared in a stall near the entrance. Beverages, such as traditional kopi and teh, are served from the rear of the coffee shop.
Yong He's signature kway teow soups are available in several sizes: small, medium and large. It may not be obvious on the menu but there is also an extra-large size. Apart from kway teow (white flat noodle), other types of noodle, such as silver needle noodle or lou shu fen (老鼠粉), bee hoon, mee pok, handmade noodle, etc, are also available.
Yong He's kway teow soup comes with a wide variety of fresh ingredients. The small-size noodle soup contains a slice of abalone, a fish ball, a meat ball, slices of pig liver, minced pork, slices of lean pork, veggies and topped with fried shallots, chopped spring onions and crispy fried pork lard.
The larger sizes of kway teow soup will have extra ingredients, with additional prawns, oysters, abalone clams, pig kidney, etc, depending on the prices.
Yong He also serves dry noodle with minced meat and dark sauce and with all ingredients placed in a separate bowl of soup. I have always favoured kway teow in soup and did not expect the dry-version kway teow to be more flavourful.
It is going to be hard for me to decide whether to go for the soup- or dry-version when I go back to Yong He next time — I will probably alternate. 😉
