OldTown White Coffee (旧街场) is a franchised restaurant chain that started in Ipoh. As its name implies, it carries Ipoh's white coffee as its signature beverage. It also serves a long list of Malaysian local delights, including toasts, dim sum, nasi lemak and wide range of rice and noodle dishes.
OldTown White Coffee has numerous outlets throughout West Malaysia and Singapore. This post is on the outlet in JB City Square Shopping Centre.
The signature OldTown White Coffee (旧街场白咖啡) is a milk coffee using white coffee beans. In Malaysia's coffee terms, "white coffee" refers to coffee beans that are slow-roasted without adding sugar and the end product has lighter colour. Ipoh's white coffee uses coffee beans that are roasted with butter / margarine and served with condensed milk. It is a must-try when dining at OldTown.
The OldTown Prawn Meehoon & Mee (旧街场鲜虾米粉汤) uses thin rice vermicelli and yellow noodle in broth with half a hard-boiled egg, fresh prawns, fishcake, bean sprouts and greens. The broth tastes delightful with rich prawny flavour and mild spiciness. It is a nice dish to go for.
The Supreme BBQ Chicken & Fried Wantan Dry Egg Noodle (鸡叉烧炸云吞干捞全蛋面) is one sumptuous dish full of ingredients. There are fried dumplings, chicken char siew, fried tofu, fried tofu skin, minced chicken meat and bok choy on egg noodle tossed in a delightful sauce. It is delicious and a filling dish.
The Chicken Chop Springy Noodle (鸡扒干捞快熟面) has large pieces of chicken chop on thick springy noodle with fishcakes, a fried egg and vegetable. The well-fried chicken meat is succulent and tasty but not salty. The noodle is tossed in a nice savoury sauce that seems wet initially but gets absorbed by the noodle over time and not resulting in a too-dried dish.
Despite being housed in JB City Square Shopping Centre, the OldTown White Coffee outlet is opened daily at 8am to serve breakfast — access via the entrance from JB Sentral.
