Ah Hua Kueh Teow (亚华粿条) is located just a stone's throw from KSL City Mall in Taman Abad. The restaurant has been around since 1950 and its signature dish is kuey teow soup (粿条汤).
Ah Hua's menu is pasted on the wall. By default, kuey teow will be used for all noodle dishes unless otherwise specified. For dry-style, a sauce can be selected from an option of three — black sauce, chilli paste or vinegar — for tossing with the noodle. The ingredients vary depending on the selected size of the noodle dish. And they have a single snack: golden fishcake (黄金鱼饼) — must be good.
The medium kuey teow (soup) has many ingredients that includes sliced lean meat, minced pork, faux abalone slice, fishballs, pig liver, pig kidney, greens, seaweed and crispy fried pork lard. The flavourful broth makes the kuey teow soup a delicious noodle dish.
The small kuey teow (dry), with black soy sauce, is topped with sliced lean meat, minced meat, pig liver and crispy fried pork lard. The accompanying soup has seaweed, greens and fishballs. The black sauce is neither too sweet nor savoury and gives the same noodle dish a different taste experience.
Ah Hua's dry-style noodle can also be tossed with chilli or vinegar. I will try them in subsequent visits and their fishcake too.
