JB Cafe: Nimmies Pastry Cafe @ Taman Melodies

Nimmies Pastry Cafe, a bakery-cum-cafe, is housed in a 2-storey bungalow in Taman Melodies of Johor Bahru — a residential estate between Taman Century, where KSL City Mall is located, and Taman Sentosa. The cafe occupies the whole bungalow with tables and seats out in the front yard as well as on the upper level.

As a bakery also, Nimmies Pastry Cafe's specialty is croissant. The baked croissants displayed in the glass shelves near the counter have various shapes and sizes with different toppings, both savoury and sweet. Other than pastries, the cafe serves Asian delights as well as western food, sandwiches, salads, etc.

The hot Gula Melaka Latte, with "less sweet" and "oat milk" options, has a nice gula Melaka aroma and just the right amount of sweetness — adding sweet coconut palm sugar has tendency to make dairy milk latte tastes sweeter. On the menu, the cold gula Melaka latte have a prettier presentation.

The cafe can create some pretty nice latte art for hot latte coffee. The Hojicha Latte has a beautiful seahorse drawn on it. The Dirty Choc Croissant is a round croissant that resembles a cromboloni and topped with chocolate powder and some chocolate syrup.

The Hoe Lemak Croissant is a unique pastry of the cafe. It is basically a croissant containing similar ingredients as typical nasi lemak. The bowl-shape crust is made with buttery and flaky croissant. It contains a sunny-side-up egg, that has a beautiful orange yolk, and topped with peanuts, fried ikan bilis (anchovies), cucumber with sambal chilli. The pastry has familiar flavours from the buttery-sweet pastry crust and savoury-spicy nasi lemak fillings but a unique taste experience.

Nimmies Pastry Cafe's Fish 'n Chips dish won the World Chef Championship Gold Medal in 2024 and is for 1~2 pax. The chunky fish fillet used is seabass and fried in batter till crispy and served with cross trax fries. Accompanying the dish are three types of dipping sauce: tartar, truffle aioli and a green sauce made with coriander and spring onion. This dish is really good with wonderful taste experiences. Must try!

Nimmies Pastry Cafe is a nice place to hangout with friends and to try their special creations. Expect to splurge though.
