Hailed as the last "green forest" within Chiang Mai Old City, Fern Forest Cafe is hidden behind its own courtyard of lush greenery. Located along Singharat Road, the well-known cafe's location is no secret to its seekers, especially those seeking to have a go at its cakes and desserts.
The trees in the courtyard offer shades for several tables and seats out in the open with more tables inside the elegant 2-storey white building.
Fern Forest Cafe serves a long list of dishes, including western mains, Thai rice dishes, pastas, salads, sandwiches, bagels, vegetarian dishes, etc, and also a wide range of beautiful cakes and delicious-looking desserts. Its colourful menu will trigger salivation before any orders are placed. Other than western coffees, there are fruity teas, juices and soda too.
The cafe's best-selling Coconut Cream Pie has a filling of coconut cream, made from fresh coconut flesh and coconut water, on a freshly baked pie and topped with some macadamia nuts. It is a creamy dessert yet not too sweet.
The Banana Fritters with vanilla ice-cream is served with honey separately for adding according to taste. The nicely fried banana fritters have natural banana sweetness but still have some room to be flavoured by a small amount of honey. Eating the hot fritter with cold vanilla ice-cream is yet another taste experience.
Their colourful and refreshing drinks are great to go with desserts. Dream of Summer (left) is a refreshing soda with passion fruit and mint. Relaxing (right) is a smoothie with red apple, green apple, pineapple and lemongrass.
Fern Forest Cafe is truly a nice cafe to go for their cakes and desserts when in Chiang Mai. I will be back again to go for their main dishes.
