Johor Bahru (新山), the capital of Johor, Malaysia, is the nearest city to Singapore across the Straits of Johor. Due to high exchange rate from Singapore dollars to Malaysia ringgit, the city attracts many Singapore residents with tonnes of food options, shopping and recreation. Johor Bahru is also a major transportation hub to get to other parts of West and East Malaysia.

As a small city, Johor Bahru has not much to offer in terms of sight-seeing but its wide range of local delights and international cuisines at lower prices than Singapore is attractive reason for many Singapore residents to cross the border.
