Johor Bahru (新山), in the state of Johor, Malaysia, is the nearest city to Singapore across the Straits of Johor. Due to high exchange rate from Singapore dollars to Malaysia ringgit, the city attracts many Singapore residents with tonnes of food options, shopping and recreation. The city is also a major transportation hub to get to other parts of West and East Malaysia.

As a city, Johor Bahru has not much to offer in terms of sight-seeing but its wide range of local delights and international cuisines at lower prices than Singapore is definitely attractive reason for many Singapore residents to cross the border.
